ALTUN HA (Rock Stone Water in Yucatec Maya)

The discovery of the largest piece of jade carvings ever happened in March of 1968 at Altun Ha.The site yielded artifacts and burials closely associated with Religion.

Occupation time line confirms that activities took place between 900BC to 1000AD, with most of the information reflecting the Classic Period between 400 AD to 900AD.

Primary focus for visitors today are Plazas A and B, all containing temples and communal built structures primarily as a main avenue of communication with deities. Structure B-4,the main structure, displays a staircase with stuccoed mask, similar to that carved on the Jade head.
A major site during the Maya Era was because of its location on the coast.Trading seems to have played a significant role in its existence with other Cities in Central Mexico.

The creole community Rock Stone Pond today thrives on Community Based Tourism. It is approximately 33 miles from the Cruise Port and 20 miles from the International Airport, making it a half day outing for family and friends.
